Letter to my younger self or: Pain shows us the emotional blockages of the body

It has been many years since I had my first panic attack. It was triggered by a terrible relationship that completely destroyed my dreams. At that time, people were already talking about mood disorders, but still much less than is the case today. That's why I was terribly embarrassed that I was suddenly "different".

The panic attacks slowed me down a lot in my life and I wanted to overcome them as quickly as possible.
The neurologist I was seeing prescribed Citalopram. This medication worked for about a year and then I was given venlafaxine. All in all, I took SSRIs, also known colloquially as "psychotropic drugs", for about 10 years.
If I could write a letter to my younger self with my current knowledge, it would read something like this:
"Dear Laura, I see you and the pain you have accumulated through many years of repression. Your desire to simply be happy is absolutely justified! If I may give you some advice, please do not take any SSRI drugs. According to Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, these drugs are so-called neurotoxins and numb all emotions, the unpleasant ones (such as anxiety and panic attacks) but also the beautiful feelings! Our wonderful Mother Nature has provided us with gifts and healers in the form of flowers and plants. One hundred percent pure essential oils are fifty to seventy times more potent than dried herbs, and bergamot and peppermint have wonderful mood-lifting properties. You may ask how this works.... Well, it's quite simple.

The nose picks up a scent and passes this information on to the brain. The brain stem is the seat of our parasympathetic nervous system - all functions that run automatically, such as breathing, are controlled there. The information from the plant essence passes on biochemical codes to the cells, so to speak, which are directly processed there by forming neuropeptides such as endorphin, serotonin, gaba, melatonin, etc., which are then transported to every important cell in the body and thus make us happy or calm us down. Last but not least, I would like to tell you that the effect of essential oils is particularly powerful in meditation, because in this mindful state we activate our self-healing powers. And all this without any side effects. Turn to the gifts of the earth, they will heal and protect you. I send you lots of love and thank you."
What I didn't know at the time was the fact that you have to very slowly phase out venlafaxine in order not to risk the so-called serotonin syndrome or other withdrawal symptoms. This may sound "harsh", but even the smallest change in dose can lead to strong reactions of the autonomic nervous system in sensitive people like me.
Mindfulness, a healthy diet and the right nutritional supplements are practically vital when tapering off venlafaxine. Detox, detox and detox again are a top priority to support the liver and to restore the energy level one had before taking the SSRI.
When tapering off SSRIs, other health problems can come to light. I manifested a chronic pain syndrome. Through intensive healing work I found that all my emotional problems had manifested as pain in trigger points.
Sometimes the tears simply ran because a special point on the spine was manipulated by a physiotherapist. Especially the feeling of "sadness" came up for me and I observed that my emotional body is connected to the connective tissue.

I transformed and consciously integrated all these feelings through conscious mindfulness.
All the experiences reported in this article are based on the observation of my own body.
I have not had any orthodox medical training, but I have really "been there" enough on the patient side - to put it colloquially.
I use all my experience and knowledge about happiness, health and living without psychotropic drugs for the benefit of my family, my friends and colleagues, as well as the community in which I live.
